The Abuja Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has concluded arrangements to confer an award on the Borno state Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima for his role in IDP resettlement and general handling of the Boko Haram crisis in his state.
A statement by the Chairman of the Press Week Committee, Comrade Victorson Agbenson says the decision was taken by the Council led by Mr. Paul Ella Abechi, after careful considerations.
According to Comrade Agbenson, “The truth is that the progress which the Buhari administration has made in terms of the entire Boko Haram saga is noteworthy and significant and could not have been achieved without the commitment and sacrifice of the likes of Governor Shettima, whose home state, Borno bore the greatest brunt of the insurgency”.
“So this award is the Abuja NUJ’s stimulant for Governor Shettima and other stakeholders to continue the good work and ensure that the positive things happening in Borno continues, especially the release of the remaining Chibok girls”.
The statement says the choice of his being conferred with this award also stems from his giant strides in resettling the IDPs and his critical role in combating terrorism. “The painstaking negotiations and safe return of many of the abducted Chibok girls are testimonies to this fact. Indeed, this is a pat on the back for more work to be done”.
An Elder Statesman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur is also to be honoured during the event while Chief Tunde Ayeni, an entrepreneur would be speaking on the private sector component of the nation’s economy.
